Welcome to my design “studio” where I talk about what inspires me for the designs we produce at Encore Decor. In this issue I’m looking at DC spring event design, the color palette that it evokes and how to use it at your next event.
As Creative Director one of my favorite parts of any project is creating the initial mood board, where color, texture, and intention begin to take shape. This is where we slow down long enough to ask the right questions before anything is built.
In the spring, event design those answers are often shaped by the city itself. Washington’s cherry blossom season represents renewal and forward motion, and it naturally influences how we approach design. Local flowers return to the forefront. Light becomes a defining element.
For mission-driven events during the busy March and April fundraising season, DC event spring design is about honoring tradition while signaling momentum and optimism.

When we start designing an event, our main design focus is the stage. It is the emotional anchor of the room and sets the tone for the entire evening. Every layer is carefully added so it builds a look with lighting and projection, color, symbolism, and scale. These elements work together to support the stories being told and the moments being honored.
And it is the details that ultimately bring everything into alignment. Linens, seating, and subtle lighting accents should feel thoughtful and restrained, never excessive.
For spring events in DC, especially as we look ahead to America 250, the most meaningful designs should feel grounded, hopeful, and human. The goal is always the same: to create an environment that feels welcoming, timeless, and quietly powerful.
